This is the best aasana for meditation and long time sitting aasana.

Pronouncetion = pa-dah-maa-sun-aa

Padam = lotus, Aasana = posture or pose or position

Padamasana or lotus pose is, meaning - 

Padamasana appears like a lotus after sitting in this pose . This is why it is also called as lotus pose or lotus asana. Sitting in this posture makes the mind calm and concentration in this article we write about padasana benefits, how to do Padamasana, and precautions in Hindi and English.



How to do Padamasana or lotus pose step by step -

1/ Sit with the legs straight in front of the body.

2/ Slowly and carefully bend one leg and place the foot on top of the opposite thigh.

3/ The sole should face upward and the heel should be close to the pubic bone.

4/ When this feels comfortable, bend the other leg and place the foot on top of the opposite thigh.

5/ Both knees should ideally touch the ground in the final position.

6/ The head and spine should be held upright and the shoulders relaxed.

7/ Place the hands on the knees in chin or gyan mudra. 

8/ Relax the arms with the elbows slightly bend and check that the shoulders are not raised or hunched.

9/  Close the eyes and relax the whole body. Observe the total posture of the body. 

10/ Make the necessary adjustments by moving forward or backward until balance and alignment are experienced. Perfect alignment indicates the co posture of Padamasana.

Time Duration of Padamasana - 

Beginners - Sit 10 - 30 Seconds and slowly increase your time 1 or 3 minute. 

Advance practitioner -  Should hold it long time as long as like 1 or more then 5 min or max time if you are comfortable.

If you r not comfortable this asana then you can do 1st half lotus pose.

Benefit of Padamasana /Lotus pose - 

Sit full lotus pose - 


1/ Padamasana allows the body to be held completely steady for long periods. 

2/ It holds the trunk and head like a pillar with the legs as the firm foundation. 

3/  As the body is steadied the mind becomes calm. 

4/ This steadiness and calmness is the first step towards real meditation. 

5/ Padamasana directs the flow of prana from mooladhar chakra in the perineum to Sahsrara Chakra in the head heightening the the experience of mind. 

6/  This posture applies to the lower spine which has a relaxing effect on the nervous system. 

7/ The breath becomes slow, muscular tension is decreased and blood pressure is reduced. 

8/  The normally large blood flow to the legs is redirected to the abdominal region. 

9/ This activity also stimulates the digestive process and also help reduce backache . 

10/ when we are doing this asana then it increase our thoughts power and recall power. 

Pronouncetion of Padamasana, who should not do Padamasana - 

1/ Those who suffer from sciatica or weak or injured knees should not do this asana. 

2/  This asana should not be attempted until flexible of the knees has been developed through practice of the pre meditation asanas. 

3/ It's not advisable during pregnancy as the circulation in the legs is reduced.

पद्मासन, कमल आसन - 


पद्म = कमल यह पद्म संस्कृत का शब्द है जिसका अर्थ कमल होता है इसे लोट्स पोस भी कहते हैं. इस आसन में ध्यान किया जाता है इसके अनेक लाभ है जैसे मन शांत, एकाग्रता में वृद्धि करती है और स्त्रियों में मासिक धर्म संबंधी समस्याओं को दूर करता है अगर प्रतिदिन इसका अभ्यास करें तो इस आसन में बैठना सहज होता है इस आसन को कोई भी कर सकता है इस आर्टिकल में हम पद्मासन के लाभ, करने की विधि, और किसको नहीं करना चाहिए क्या क्या सावधानी रखनी चाहिए आदि को जाएंगे.


पद्मासन कैसे करें -


1/ पैरों को सामने की ओर सीधे रखकर बैठ जाएं धीरे - धीरे  सावधानी से एक पैर को मोड़े और मोड़े हुये पैर का पंजा दूसरी जांघ के ऊपर रखें.

2/ इस स्थिति में तलवा ऊपर की ओर रहें और एड़ी कुल्हे हड्डी को स्पर्श करें.

3/  जब इस स्थिति में आरामदायक लगे तो दूसरे पैर को मोड़ें और दूसरी जांघ पर रख दें ध्यान रखें ये तलवा भी ऊपर की ओर और एड़ी नीचे कुल्हे की हड्डी के संपर्क में रहे.

4/ सबसे उत्कृष्ट तब होगा जब दोनों घुटना जमीन के संपर्क में रहें. शुरूवात में थोड़ा कठिन होगा पर प्रतिदिन की अभ्यास से ठीक हो जाएगा.


5/ सिर और रीढ़ की हड्डी को सीधे रखें और कंधे को बिना कोई खिंचाव के तनाव मुक्त रखें.

6/ दोनों हांथों को चीन या ज्ञान मुद्रा में रखें कोई खिंचाव या तनाव नहीं होना चाहिए.

7/ इस स्थिति को सरल बनाए रखने के लिए दोनों कोहनियों को थोड़ा मोड़ ले और दोनों भुजाओं को विश्राम दें .

8/ कंधे ऊपर उठे हुए या नीचे झुके हुए न हो आँख बंद कर ले और पूरा शरीर को ढीला शिथिल छोड़ दें.

9/ शरीर की संपूर्ण आकृति आकर का आँख बंद करके अवलोकन करे अगर सहज महसूस न हो तो शरीर के उस अंग को या पूरी शरीर को हिला डुलाकर संतुलित करें और एक सीध में ले आए.

10/ शरीर का एक सीध में होना पद्मासन की सही स्थिति का परिचायक है.


अवधि -


जितनी देर तक आप इस आसन में आसानी से सुगमता पूर्वक बैठ सके. अगर आप नए हो तो पहले अर्द्ध 10 - 30  सेकंड हांथों का सहारा लेकर बैठने की कोशिश करे
और यदि आप नित्य अभ्यासी हो तो 1 से 5 मिनट या उससे अधिक समय तक बैठ सकते हैं.
यदि टखने (ankles) और घुटनों में किसी प्रकार का कष्ट हो तो आप अर्द्ध पद्मासन से शुरूवात करें


सजगता -

शारीरिक -  घुटनों और टखनो में खिंचाव पर, पीठ को सीधा रखने में और साँसों में.

पद्मासन के पहले किया जाने वाला आसन -

अर्द्ध मत्स्येन्द्र आसन, सिद्धासन, वीरासन, जानू सिरासन आदि. 


पद्मासन के बाद किया जाने वाला आसन -

सुप्त पादअंगुष्ठासन, अधोमुख श्वासन आदि. 


पद्मासन के फायदे / लाभ - 

1/ पद्मासन द्वारा शरीर को लंबे समय तक पूर्णतः स्थिर रखा जा सकता है.

2/  शरीर के स्थिर होते ही मन शांत हो जाता है और यही स्थिरता और शांति सफल ध्यान का पहला चरण है.

3/  पद्मासन पैरों के दृढ़ आधर पर सर और धड़ को स्तम्भ के समान खड़ा रखता है.

4/  पद्मासन प्राण शक्ति को मुलाधार चक्र (गुदा और मुतेन्र्द्री के मध्य) से सहस्त्रार चक्र (सिर के शीर्ष भाग) में उचित रूप से प्रवाहित करती है जिससे ध्यान की अनुभूति में तीव्रता आती है.

5/ यह आसन रीढ़ की हड्डी के निचले भाग में दबाव डालता है, जिसके फलस्वरुप तंत्रिका तंत्र पर विश्राम दायक प्रभाव पड़ता है.

6/  श्वास धीमी हो जाती है तथा पेशिय - तनाव कम हो जाता है.

7/ ब्लड प्रेशर मे कमी आती है.

8/  रीढ़ की हड्डी का निचला भाग और आमाशय में फैली तंत्रिकाओ को पोषण प्राप्त होता है.

9/  पैर मुड़े होने के कारण पैरों की दिशा मे खून की कमी होती है इसलिए आमाशय को अतिरिक्त खून की पूर्ति होती है जिससे पाचन शक्ति बढ़ती है.

10 / मासिक चक्र की परेशानी को कम करता है.

 पद्मासन के लिए सावधानी /  पद्मासन किसको नहीं करना चाहिए -


1/ जिनको पैरों में चोंट लगी हो या घुटने में या टखने (ankles) में दर्द हो उनको पद्मासन नहीं करना चाहिए.

2/ जिनको सायटिका या त्रिकास्थि (कमर का निचला हिस्सा) रोग से पीड़ित हो उन्हें पद्मासन नहीं करना चाहिए.


3/ गर्भावस्था में पद्मासन नहीं करना चाहिए क्योंकि इस आसन से पैरों में रक्त संचार कम हो जाता है.

4/ इस आसन को करने से बुद्धी में स्थिरता आती हैं जिससे हमारे विचार शक्ति और स्मरण शक्ति बढ़ती है.
